Weddings
Northway Christian Church celebrates your engagement and is grateful for the privilege of being able to share its wedding ministry with you and your families. We understand that while a wedding is a romantic ceremony and a once-in-a-lifetime social event, that it is also so much more. In Scripture marriage is described as a spiritual mystery, a veritable sign of God's relationship with His people in Jesus Christ, and in Christian tradition marriage has been so highly valued that in some parts of the church it has actually been called a sacrament. Should you choose Northway Christian Church for your upcoming wedding, we will work together with you to plan your wedding and to prepare you for marriage that will honor this spiritual dimension of what you are doing.
The paragraphs below provide you with the basic information that you will need as you begin your wedding planning at Northway Christian Church. By now you have most likely had some conversations with florists, photographers and caterers concerning the services they provide. You may have even signed some contracts. It's understandable why you might approach the church with this same "services" and "contracts" mindset. But that's not how we view it here at Northway Christian Church. For us, this is a ministry. It's an occasion of grace and an expression of faith. Our goal is to provide you with the personnel, policies and facilities that will best serve your needs and uphold the sacred nature of our identity as a community of Christian commitment.
Jesus Christ worked His first miracle at a wedding in Cana of Galilee (John 2). He graced that gathering with His special presence and His power. When your wedding is over, it is our hope here at Northway Christian Church that the same thing will be said of what we have done. We are looking forward to working with you.
Scheduling
If you would like to have your wedding at Northway Christian Church, please call the Church Office Manager to schedule your wedding. Reservations for use of church facilities may be made up to one year in advance of the selected date. While tentative reservations may be made by phone and will be held for one week, arrangements are finalized by coming to the church office to sign the Wedding Ministry Covenant with Northway Christian Church, by scheduling an appointment with a Minister, and by making a reservation deposit of $225.00 which will be returned following the ceremony. If there is a cancellation or a change in the date, the church office should be notified immediately so the date may be made available to others.
No weddings or rehearsals will be scheduled to take place during Holy Week or on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.
The church will be open and available two (2) hours prior to the start of the ceremony and cover a four (4) hour block of time. If the wedding reception is also to be held at the church, the time block is extended by one hour following the ceremony making a total time block of five (5) hours.
A “Simple Service” wedding may be arranged by any of our ministers. A “Simple Service” wedding is defined as one in which there is no music, no flowers, no reception, no rehearsal, a maximum of ten guests, and where no church staff members are involved except the Officiating Minister.
If you would like to take a tour of Northway's facilities, stop by the church office Monday through Friday from 8:30 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Tours are available at other times by appointment. To schedule an appointment, please contact the Church Office Manager.
A detailed schedule of fees may be obtained by calling the Church Office Manager at (214) 361-6641.
Officiating
One of the ministers from Northway will officiate at all weddings. In keeping with the ethics of the ministry, any other clergy assisting in the wedding will be extended the invitation by the Officiating Minister from Northway. Therefore, if a family desires other clergy to assist in the ceremony, the request must be made through the Officiating Minister.
The Officiating Minister will meet with the wedding party and direct the rehearsal and will be assisted by the wedding coordinator from Northway.
The Wedding Guild
The Wedding Coordinator
The Wedding Guild of Northway Christian Church will provide a Wedding Coordinator to assist the Officiating Minister with the rehearsal and wedding ceremony. The responsibilities of the Wedding Coordinator include:
- being available for pre-wedding consultation in regard to the details of the rehearsal and the wedding,
- being present at the rehearsal to assist the Officiating Minister with the "choreography" of the ceremony,
- being present two hours prior to the ceremony to receive/direct deliveries, help with directions, and act as the church's liaison, and
- assisting the Officiating Minister and Wedding Party during the wedding ceremony.
Any outside Wedding Consultant who assists the bride and groom must understand that the Officiating Minister is in charge of the ceremony with the assistance of Northway's Wedding Coordinator. It is the responsibility of the bride to communicate this to the consultant.
Other Details
Additional details about premarital preparation and music, as well as guidelines for decorations, florists, and photographers, can be found in the Northway Christian Church Wedding Planning Guide, available in the church office.
