Stephen Ministers meet one-on-one approximately once a week, for about an hour with people who are in crisis, or who need a non-judgmental person just to listen to their concerns. All conversations are held in the strictest confidence.
The Stephen Ministry mission statement:
The mission of Stephen Ministries St. Louis is to proclaim through word and deed the Gospel of Jesus Christ by nurturing, edifying, educating, and equipping the whole people of God who are called, gifted, and sent to be more effective servants who care for the needs of the whole person.
Some areas of concern include, but are not confined to:
- Divorce
- Death of a close family member or close friend
- Marital separation
- Change in health of family member
- Change in residence
- Change in schools
- Trouble with in-laws
- Change in financial state
- Gain of new family member
- Change in social activities
- Change in sleeping habits
- Change in eating habits
- Beginnning or stopping work
- Foreclosure of mortgage or loan
- Change in work hours or conditions
- Business readjustments
- Pregnancy
- Fired at work
